Artist's Comments

UPDATE: Added an example of 2006 art!

An art progress sheet I made in early 2005 to record how much my art has developed over the years.

2001 - [link] This was like, one of the first proper CGs I did. I had no idea how to use Photoshop's functions properly or Layers or anything so this was created on the default Background canvas with Magic Wand. Aqua is someone else's original character which I drew as a request.
The style (note the eyes) I used was very much influenced by an anime called BB-Daman Bakugaiden. I used to draw a LOT of Bakugaiden fanart so the style stuck with my other artwork too. You can tell I was a total n00b at CG, just look at the horrible JPEG compression!

2002 - [link] I practiced and got better~ This was one of my best CG's during 2002, I remember working very hard on it and it was one of my first attempts at digitally inking an entire picture. I was very influenced by Koge-Donbo at the time which would explain the style change here. This is my original character, Pikapikahikaru from Sparkling Fight, a manga concept I've been trying to develop for years but will never materialise cos I be lame with ideas. XD
I did quite a few SF artworks during 2002 prior this which were actually a LOT worse, so it just shows how fast I improved in this year. ^^;

(NOTE: I used my SF charas in a short spin-off called Sparkling Gift in Sweatdrop's latest anthology, Sugardrops.)

2003 - [link] I think this year shows more improvement in terms of CG technique. This here be Pocky Boi, a random pink boy advertising Ichigo Pocky. X3 The image was used to experiment with making cleaner lineart and colouring. The artworks I created after Pocky Boi gradually got better, and style also began to differ a bit. Actually now that I think of it, this was one of the very few pics I did of a boy ^^; I draw girls a lot.

2004 - [link] I call this my 'Shiney Shine Movement'. I was obsessed with trying to make my artwork as shiny as possible, and this is probably the most blinding of them all. XD This is Lilica, a character I designed based off a description for someone who "commissioned" me.
It's a semi-chibi pic, and I used tone for the background. I drew a lot of chibi artwork during 2004.

2005 - [link]
I got tired of drawing so many chibis as it got kinda repetitive, boring and not helping me to improve my art so I aimed to draw more grown-up characters, namely bishoujo. ^^;
I figure this would help me improve my anatomy since I'm so bad at that. This character is Katya, !rikfuzz's original character. My rendition looks nothing like his chara design because I made her hair/outfit differently and I drew her in a more mature-looking style. With this piece, I tried making the overall colouring softer and I decided to do the hair highlight different to usual. I was attempting to change my way of drawing the face as well, give the eyes more definition.

2006 - [link]
Miyuki chan, mascot for Otaku News! Honestly, I don't really have anything to say about this XD; My art hasn't changed much or improved in 2006, it was a pretty busy year for me doing commissions and such.

I just noticed all the example artworks in the sheet have pink-haired characters, so I'm gonna keep that theme for the sheet XD

Ahh! I love Koge Donbo! I'm rather influenced by her as well. It's amazing tho... how one notices the way their art changes so much over a period of time. And I know with this coming year, you'll be even better than you are. Keep at it! Good luck~
